Pickup Locations for WeShipExpress Shippers
Brands that ship through WeShipExpress can offer customers FedEx and UPS pickup locations in two ways. Buyers can choose a pickup location at checkout, next to your other shipping rates. And when a home delivery attempt fails, Delivery Assured offers the customer a nearby FedEx or UPS location instead of another attempt or a return. Via.Delivery powers both, and produces the compliant shipping labels that UPS Access Point and FedEx Hold at Location deliveries require.
Key facts
- Two Via.Delivery products work with WeShipExpress: Pickup at Checkout and Missed Delivery Redirect, which WeShipExpress calls Delivery Assured.
- Both FedEx and UPS, for checkout and for redirects after a failed delivery attempt.
- Compliant labels. Via.Delivery produces the shipping labels for UPS Access Point and FedEx Hold at Location deliveries, so every pickup shipment meets each carrier's requirements.

- 16% on average of buyers of wine and other signature-required products choose pickup when it's offered at checkout (Via.Delivery data).

1. Pickup at Checkout
Buyers see nearby FedEx and UPS pickup locations next to your other shipping rates and choose one before they pay. The order goes to WeShipExpress with the pickup location as the delivery address, and ships with a compliant UPS Access Point or FedEx Hold at Location label.

2. Delivery Assured, after a failed delivery attempt
Delivery Assured is WeShipExpress's name for Via.Delivery's Missed Delivery Redirect. Via.Delivery tracks home deliveries several times a day. When FedEx or UPS records a failed attempt, the customer gets an email and a text offering the nearest suitable pickup location: one that accepts the package's size and weight, and, for wine, accepts alcohol. The customer redirects the package in a few taps.
- FedEx: the redirect works after the first, second or even third failed attempt, so the package can still reach the customer instead of going back to the shipper.
- UPS: the customer can choose a UPS location near them after a failed attempt.
Compliant labels for UPS Access Point and FedEx Hold at Location
A package going to a pickup location needs a label that the carrier's network recognizes as a UPS Access Point or FedEx Hold at Location delivery, with the location's ID and the recipient's name. Via.Delivery produces these labels, so pickup shipments are handled and held correctly at the location. Learn more about compliant label generation.
Why pickup matters for wine shipments
Every wine shipment needs the signature of an adult aged 21 or older, and most deliveries arrive on weekdays while people are at work.
- Signature fees repeat on every reship. At 2026 list rates, the adult signature fee is $10.00 per package on FedEx and $9.35 on UPS. Actual costs depend on each shipper's negotiated discounts.
- Pickup works around the customer's schedule. Packages are held at the location, and the customer gets reminders until they collect.
- Members who keep missing deliveries cancel. In our analysis of wine club member loss, one member who cancels over delivery problems can cost a winery about $1,840 in future gross profit.
