Via.Delivery at Commerce7 Partners Day in Napa
Today our team is in Napa for Commerce7 Partners Day. Via.Delivery has been a Commerce7 partner for years, and events like this are where we compare notes with the people who run winery DTC every day: what's slowing down club releases, where fulfillment breaks, and what wineries want next.
This year we're bringing two things to the conversation: the results from our current Commerce7 app, and an early look at the next version, which brings pickup locations to the Commerce7 checkout itself.
If you're at the event, come find us. If you're not, you can book a call and we'll walk you through the same demo.

What Commerce7 does for wineries
Commerce7 is a direct-to-consumer platform built for wineries. It brings the main DTC channels into one system:
- Clubs and subscriptions: club releases, member management and recurring charges.
- Ecommerce: the online store, with product recommendations and checkout.
- Point of sale and reservations: the tasting room, tours and events.
- CRM and analytics: one customer record across channels, plus reporting.
Our Commerce7 app today: pickup after the order is placed
Our current Commerce7 app solves a problem that's specific to wine clubs: club orders never go through checkout. A club release is charged automatically, so a member never gets the chance to pick a delivery option. Every bottle still needs an adult (21+) to sign, and releases usually arrive on weekdays, when many members are at work.
With the app, when a new order comes in from Commerce7, including club orders:
With the app, when a new order comes in from Commerce7, including club orders:
- The customer gets an offer by email and text, in the winery's name, to pick up the order at a nearby location instead.
- They choose a location on a single page: the closest one first, with its distance and pickup hours, plus nearby alternatives and a map. Only locations that accept alcohol are shown.
- The order is switched to pickup before it ships, as a FedEx Hold at Location or UPS Access Point delivery, and the winery's fulfillment system is updated automatically.
- One checkbox covers every future release. Members can save the location, so the next shipment goes there without another email to answer.
Coming next: pickup locations at Commerce7 checkout
The next version of our Commerce7 app adds pickup at checkout. When a buyer places a one-time order on a winery's Commerce7 store, they'll see nearby FedEx and UPS pickup locations next to the winery's other shipping options, and can choose one before they pay.
That closes the loop for wineries:
That closes the loop for wineries:
- One-time orders get pickup at checkout.
- Club and subscription orders keep getting the offer after the order is placed, with the option to save it for every future release.
- Anything shipped to a home address is still covered by Missed Delivery Redirect if the delivery attempt fails.
Why pickup matters for Commerce7 wineries
Wine is one of the few products that can't be left at the door. Both carriers require an adult signature on every wine shipment, and both offer their own pickup networks as the alternative: FedEx Hold at Location and UPS Access Point locations, where the recipient shows ID at the counter.
Three things make that alternative more valuable for wineries this year:
Three things make that alternative more valuable for wineries this year:
- Signature fees add up on reships. At 2026 list rates, the adult signature fee is $10.00 per package on FedEx and $9.35 on UPS, and it applies again on a reship. Actual costs depend on each shipper's negotiated discounts.
- UPS now offers pickup after one attempt. Since June 1, 2026, UPS sends a missed wine delivery to a nearby UPS Access Point after the first attempt, where it's held for up to 7 days. Members who choose their own location ahead of time know exactly where to go.
- Keeping members matters more as DTC shrinks. The 2026 Direct-to-Consumer Wine Shipping Report from Sovos ShipCompliant and WineBusiness Analytics recorded a 15% drop in DTC shipment volume in 2025. In our analysis of wine club member loss, one member who cancels over delivery problems can cost a winery about $1,840 in future gross profit.

Works with the fulfillment partners wineries already use
Many Commerce7 wineries ship through a wine fulfillment partner. For wineries that fulfill through Wineshipping, our app works with the order flow between Commerce7, ShipCompliant and Wineshipping, so a pickup order goes out like any other order. Via.Delivery works with:
- Wine fulfillment partners: Wineshipping, WeShipExpress, Copper Peak Logistics, Wine Country Connect, WineCub and BeyondVino.
- Order management and fulfillment software: ShipStation, ShipHero and Fort Systems.
Via.Delivery's solution
Via.Delivery gives wineries on Commerce7 a pickup option at every point where delivery can go wrong: before a club release ships, at checkout (in the new app version), and after a missed delivery. Customers choose from FedEx Hold at Location and UPS Access Point sites that accept alcohol, about 20,000 across the U.S., and packages are held for 7 days.
