Pickup Locations for Wine Country Connect Wineries

Wineries that fulfill through Wine Country Connect can give customers a FedEx or UPS pickup location instead of a home delivery that needs an adult signature. Buyers can choose a pickup location at checkout. Club members and other customers can switch an order to pickup after it's placed, before Wine Country Connect creates the shipping label. Via.Delivery is connected to Wine Country Connect's ShipStation account, so the winery doesn't need to build anything.

1. Pickup at Checkout

Buyers on your online store see nearby FedEx and UPS pickup locations next to your other shipping rates. They choose one before they pay, and the order reaches Wine Country Connect with the pickup location as the delivery address. For wine, only locations that accept alcohol are shown.

How many buyers choose pickup when it's offered at checkout, across stores using Via.Delivery (Via.Delivery data): 12% to 26% of buyers of wine and other signature-required products, 16% on average.

Learn more on the Pickup at Checkout page.

2. Pickup Redirect, before the shipping label is created

Club releases are charged automatically, so club members never see a checkout. Once Wine Country Connect uploads the orders to its ShipStation account, Via.Delivery sends each customer an email and a text in your winery's name with the closest FedEx or UPS location that accepts wine. The customer can choose it, pick another location on the map, or keep home delivery.

The change is made before Wine Country Connect creates the shipping label, so the order ships straight to the pickup location. Customers can also check "Save this choice for future orders", and every later release from your winery goes to that location automatically.

The time customers have to choose depends on how early the orders reach Wine Country Connect: the earlier you send a release, the longer the window before labels are printed.

Settings wineries can ask for

  • Only some states. Offer pickup in the states you choose, for example to start with one state and expand later.
  • Exclude specific customers. Members who never want pickup offers can be left out.
  • Replies to your team. Pickup emails can use your customer service address as the reply-to address.

Why pickup matters for wine shipments

Every wine shipment needs the signature of an adult aged 21 or older, and most deliveries arrive on weekdays while people are at work. A missed signature means another attempt, a trip to a carrier facility or a box returned to the winery. Pickup gives the customer a time that suits them, at a location that accepts wine.
  • Signature fees repeat on every reship. At 2026 FedEx list rates, the adult signature fee is $10.00 per package. Actual costs depend on each shipper's negotiated discounts.
  • Members who keep missing deliveries cancel. In our analysis of wine club member loss, one member who cancels over delivery problems can cost a winery about $1,840 in future gross profit.

Getting started

  1. Ask your Wine Country Connect representative to connect you with the Via.Delivery team, or book a demo with us directly.
  2. Choose where to start. Most wineries start with Pickup Redirect for club releases, where the same members miss the same deliveries release after release.
  3. Tell your members. Announce pickup before the next release, so members know the email and text are coming.
