Cyber Week 2026 Shipping Plan: Fees, Cutoffs and Capacity

Key Takeaways

  • Cyber Week 2026 runs from Thanksgiving, Nov 26, to Cyber Monday, Nov 30. Adobe forecasts $47.5 billion in U.S. online spending, up 7.4% from $44.2 billion in 2025. Cyber Monday ($15.1B) and Black Friday ($12.9B) make up about 59% of the week.
  • Every Cyber Week order ships inside the carriers' highest-rate weeks: Nov 22 – Dec 26 at UPS and Amazon Shipping, Nov 23 – Dec 27 at FedEx. A residential Ground package pays $7.25 in residential and demand surcharges at FedEx or UPS list rates, before fuel.
  • Fuel is now the bigger add-on. The FedEx Ground fuel surcharge is 28.75% for the week of Oct 19, 2026, and FedEx Express is 32.00%.
  • FedEx, UPS and USPS have no pickup or regular delivery on Thanksgiving (Nov 26). With next-business-day shipping, about 54% of a store's Cyber Week orders (Black Friday plus the weekend) ship on one day: Monday, Nov 30.
  • UPS expects U.S. volume to rise about 24% from Q3 to Q4 while hiring 100,000 seasonal workers, about 9% fewer than in 2025.
  • In Cyber Week 2025, carriers delivered 97.2% (USPS) to 98.9% (UPS) of parcels on time, according to ShipMatrix. On 10,000 orders, that still means about 110–280 late packages.

Cyber Week 2026: the dates that matter

Cyber Week is the five-day stretch from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. In 2026 the calendar looks like this:
DateDayWhat happens
Sun, Nov 22UPS and Amazon Shipping highest-rate period begins
Mon, Nov 23FedEx highest-rate period begins
Thu, Nov 26ThanksgivingNo FedEx, UPS or USPS pickup or regular delivery
Fri, Nov 27Black FridayUPS and USPS run normally; FedEx runs a modified schedule
Sat–Sun, Nov 28–29Weekend orders keep building
Mon, Nov 30Cyber MondayThe biggest online sales day of the year
Tue, Dec 1 – Mon, Dec 7Delivery wave for Cyber Week orders
Fri, Dec 4Hanukkah begins at sundown
The orders come in over five days, but the packages move over the next week and a half. ShipMatrix measured Cyber Week 2025 in the week after Cyber Monday: carriers handled more than 568 million parcels that week, about 30% more than off-peak, and it says more than 80% of Cyber Week parcels are gifts delivered to homes.

The scale reaches small stores too: Shopify merchants alone sold $14.6 billion over Black Friday–Cyber Monday 2025, peaking at $5.1 million per minute.

How to forecast your Cyber Week 2026 sales, day by day

Adobe's data gives a market-wide baseline for two questions: how much bigger this Cyber Week will be than last year's, and how the five days split.

U.S. online spending, Adobe Analytics. Daily growth rates are Adobe's. Adobe reports Saturday and Sunday as one figure and published no 2026 weekend forecast: the $12.6B is the $47.5B total minus the three published days, and +6.8% is calculated from it.
Bar chart of Cyber Week U.S. online spending by day: Thanksgiving $6.4B in 2025 vs $6.9B forecast for 2026, Black Friday $11.8B vs $12.9B, the weekend $11.8B vs $12.6B, Cyber Monday $14.25B vs $15.1B
What the numbers say about the shape of the week:
  • Cyber Monday is the biggest day and Black Friday the second. Together they're about 59% of Cyber Week spending, in 2025 and in the 2026 forecast.
  • Weekend days are smaller than Thanksgiving. In 2025 the weekend averaged about $5.9B a day, against $6.4B on Thanksgiving.
  • Cyber Monday peaks late. In 2025, spending peaked between 8 and 10 p.m., at $16 million a minute, so a large part of Monday's orders arrives after that day's carrier pickup.
  • Compared with an ordinary November day: U.S. shoppers spent $137.4B online from Nov 1 to Dec 1, 2025. Without Cyber Week, that leaves $93.2B over Nov 1–26, about $3.6B a day. Against that average, Thanksgiving ran about 1.8x, each weekend day about 1.6x, Black Friday about 3.3x and Cyber Monday about 4x.
  • December doesn't drop off. From Dec 2 to Dec 31, 2025, online spending averaged about $4.0B a day, and Adobe counted 25 days above $4B over the season.
Three ways to turn that into your own forecast, depending on the data you have:
  1. You have last year's orders by day. Start from your Cyber Week 2025 orders, day by day, and apply your own growth rate: your year-over-year order growth over the last 8–12 weeks is a better guide than the market's 7.4%. Compare by day name, not date: Cyber Week 2025 ran Nov 27 – Dec 1, and this year it runs Nov 26–30.
  2. You only know last year's Cyber Week total. Grow the total, then split it with the 2026 shares above: about 14.5% Thanksgiving, 27% Black Friday, 13% on each weekend day and 32% Cyber Monday.
  3. You have no holiday history. Take your average daily orders in the first three weeks of November and apply the multipliers: about 1.8x on Thanksgiving, 3.3x on Black Friday, 1.6x on each weekend day and 4x on Cyber Monday.
Treat the shares and multipliers as a starting point. They describe total U.S. online spending, not your store. Categories grow at different rates (Adobe expects apparel at +4.7% for the season and toys at +9.6%), and a store whose biggest promotion starts on Black Friday will skew toward Friday. To turn dollars into orders, divide by your expected average order value; Shopify merchants averaged $114.70 per cart over Black Friday–Cyber Monday 2025.

Worked example. A store that shipped 4,650 orders in Cyber Week 2025 and grows at the market's 7.4% plans for about 5,000 orders this year:

The next section shows why the "ships" column matters as much as the sales forecast.

Why every Cyber Week order ships at the top surcharge rate

FedEx, UPS and Amazon Shipping split their holiday surcharges into three periods. Cyber Week sits at the start of the most expensive one, and USPS runs holiday prices for the whole season:
CarrierHighest-rate periodGround residential demand fee in that periodHoliday pricing ends
UPSNov 22 – Dec 26$0.75 per packageJan 16, 2027
FedExNov 23 – Dec 27$0.80 per packageJan 17, 2027
Amazon ShippingNov 22 – Dec 26$0.75 per package demand feeJan 16, 2027
USPSOne holiday price for Oct 4 – Jan 17No separate fee; higher prices on Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, Ground Advantage, Parcel SelectJan 17, 2027
UPS rates shown are for shippers under 20,000 packages a week. Amazon Shipping lists its demand fee per package; its announcement doesn't break out residential vs business deliveries.

Shipping early only helps if an order actually ships before Nov 22. A Cyber Week sale can't, so the surcharge has to be part of the margin plan for the promotion itself. Our 2026 peak season surcharge guide has the full fee tables for all three periods.

What one Cyber Week home delivery adds in surcharges

Here is what a single Ground package to a home picks up during Cyber Week at 2026 list rates, compared with the same package going to a business address or a pickup location:
Surcharge per Ground package, Cyber WeekHome addressBusiness or pickup location
Residential surcharge$6.45 (FedEx) / $6.50 (UPS)$0
Ground residential demand surcharge$0.80 (FedEx) / $0.75 (UPS)$0
Total before fuel$7.25$0
Additional Handling demand fee, if the box qualifies$11.85 (FedEx) / $11.90 (UPS)$11.85 / $11.90
Oversize / Large Package demand fee, if the box qualifies$117.25 (FedEx) / $117.50 (UPS)$117.25 / $117.50
Two details matter here. The Ground demand fees at FedEx and UPS apply to residential packages, so a box sent to a store doesn't pay them. The handling and size demand fees apply to every address, so a bulky box costs the same peak fee wherever it goes. Contract rates often discount the residential surcharge, so check your own agreement. For the background on residential pricing, see commercial vs. residential shipping.

USPS has no residential surcharge, so the address type doesn't change its holiday price. Its seasonal increases grow with weight and zone, from about $0.40 on light, nearby parcels to $20.80 on the heaviest, farthest Priority Mail Express parcels.

Fuel surcharges: the add-on bigger than the peak fee

For the week of Oct 19–25, 2026, FedEx lists its fuel surcharge at 28.75% for Ground and Home Delivery and 32.00% for domestic Express package services. FedEx and UPS reset fuel surcharges weekly, so Cyber Week rates will be whatever is posted for Nov 23–29 and Nov 30 – Dec 6.

The TD Cowen/AFS Freight Index (Oct 13) says the parcel fuel surcharge it tracks rose from 7.75% in Q1 2021 to 30% in September 2026, and that about 72% of that increase came from carriers changing their fuel tables, not from diesel prices. The same index projects Q4 2026 ground parcel rates at a record 43.3% above its January 2018 baseline, and express at 20.3%.

The practical point: a $0.80 demand fee is easy to see on an invoice, but a fuel surcharge near 30% applied to the transportation charge usually costs more per package. When you model Cyber Week shipping costs, use the current weekly fuel percentage, not the one from your last contract review.

Amazon FBA and Multi-Channel Fulfillment peak fees

If Amazon fulfills your orders, including orders from your own site through Multi-Channel Fulfillment or Buy with Prime, its holiday fee period is longer than Cyber Week. Amazon's peak fulfillment fees run Oct 15, 2026 to Jan 14, 2027 and cover FBA, Remote Fulfillment with FBA, Multi-Channel Fulfillment and Buy with Prime. The increase averages $0.32 per unit over non-peak rates, the same as in 2025, and a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies on top, according to Chain Store Age.

The Thanksgiving gap: two days of orders, one pickup

On Thursday, Nov 26, FedEx, UPS and USPS all stop. FedEx lists Express, Ground, Home Delivery and Ground Economy as closed. UPS has no pickup or delivery for any service, and some The UPS Store locations may be closed. USPS has no regular delivery. On Friday, Nov 27, UPS and USPS run normally and FedEx runs a modified schedule.

Put that together with the sales forecast and the load is uneven. For the 5,000-order store above, shipping each order the next business day:
Carrier pickupWhat shipsOrdersShare of Cyber Week
Fri, Nov 27Thanksgiving orders (plus Wednesday-afternoon orders)72514.5%
Mon, Nov 30Black Friday and weekend orders2,68153.7%
Tue, Dec 1Cyber Monday orders1,58831.8%
Monday, Nov 30 is the heaviest shipping day, and it lands on the same day Cyber Monday orders pour in. Shipping same-day for orders placed before a cutoff moves some Black Friday volume to Friday, but unless your warehouse works the weekend and has a weekend pickup, Monday still carries Saturday's and Sunday's orders.

If your team can't clear Monday's volume in one shift, plan overtime or a weekend shift now, or promise a ship date that reflects the backlog. Many pickup locations also close or keep short hours on Thanksgiving, so packages delivered there may sit an extra day before customers can collect them.

Carrier capacity: what's planned for peak 2026

Carriers aren't adding much slack this year:
  • UPS expects U.S. volume to rise about 24% from Q3 to Q4, similar to 2025, CEO Carol Tomé said on the July earnings call. UPS plans to hire 100,000 seasonal workers, about 9% fewer than in 2025 and the second straight year of cuts. With its Q4 2025 results, UPS said it would close 24 facilities in 2026 and cut about 1 million more pieces a day as it winds down its Amazon volume.
  • Alternative carriers are bigger than they were. UniUni, Veho, Gofo, Jitsu, SpeedX, OnTrac, Better Trucks and similar carriers handled about 2.6 billion U.S. parcels, up 13%, according to ShipMatrix data cited by FreightWaves. In AlixPartners' 2026 survey of 100 supply chain executives, 55% said they use carriers beyond FedEx, UPS and USPS.
  • Marketplaces are adjusting too. On Oct 13, Walmart added eight carriers, including UniUni, SpeedX, Gofo and DoorDash, to its approved list for seller-fulfilled orders.
Capacity at the carriers is only half the question. The other half is your own: how many orders your team can pick, pack and label per hour, and whether your carrier pickup can take the full Monday load. Ask your carrier rep now whether you need a scheduled second pickup on those days.

On-time delivery: what 98% means on your orders

The carriers performed well in Cyber Week 2025. ShipMatrix measured on-time delivery at:
CarrierCyber Week 2025 on-timeLate packages per 10,000 orders
UPS98.9%about 110
FedEx98.3%about 170
USPS97.2%about 280
ShipMatrix data for the week of Dec 1–7, 2025. Late-package counts are simple arithmetic on 10,000 orders.

Each late package still costs a "where is my order" contact, and sometimes a shipping refund. Add failed deliveries and packages taken from doorsteps (see package theft prevention), and the cost adds up. Clear delivery promises and proactive tracking emails help; see how to reduce WISMO calls.

Cutoffs during and right after Cyber Week

There's no carrier "deadline" during Cyber Week itself, but two dates sit close enough to matter:
  • Hanukkah begins Dec 4. A Cyber Monday order that ships Tuesday, Dec 1 on a 5-business-day Ground lane arrives around Tuesday, Dec 8, after the first night. If you sell gifts, show the realistic arrival date at checkout, or offer a faster service for Hanukkah gifts.
  • Christmas cutoffs start Dec 15. FedEx Ground Economy has to ship by Dec 15 for delivery by Dec 24, and USPS Ground Advantage by Dec 17. Cyber Week is the right moment to publish your store's holiday cutoffs; our holiday shipping deadlines guide has every carrier date and a formula for setting your own.

Example: 5,000 Cyber Week orders to homes

Take the store from the forecast above, with about 5,000 Cyber Week orders shipped by FedEx or UPS Ground, all to residential addresses, at 2026 list rates:
All to homes10% to pickup locations
Residential packages5,0004,500
Residential + demand surcharges ($7.25 each)$36,250$32,625
Differenceup to $3,625
Before fuel, base rates, delivery area surcharges and any fee for shipping to a pickup location, such as UPS's Access Point accessorial. Use your own contract rates.

The $7.25 is a fixed cost per home delivery that the promotion has to carry. On a $114.70 cart (Shopify's 2025 Black Friday–Cyber Monday average), it's about 6% of order value before the base rate or fuel.

Via.Delivery's solution

Via.Delivery adds a pickup location option to your checkout. Shoppers choose from more than 36,000 FedEx Hold at Location and UPS Access Point locations across the U.S., and the order ships there as a commercial delivery. That skips the residential surcharge and the residential demand surcharge, the $7.25 per package in the Cyber Week example above at list rates. It also takes the package off the doorstep during the weeks when theft and missed deliveries peak.

Shoppers use it when it's offered. On average, 8% of apparel buyers, 12% of high-end accessories buyers and 7% of buyers of giftable merchandise choose a pickup location. 63.4% of customers who chose pickup could have had free home delivery, more than 60% collect within 24 hours, and 92% choose a location within 3 miles (Via.Delivery data). Packages are held for 7 days, with reminders until the customer collects.

For orders that are already placed, pickup redirect invites customers by email and text to switch to a nearby pickup location before the order ships. Missed delivery redirect gives them a pickup option when a delivery attempt fails.

For wineries running Cyber Week offers: about 20,000 of the pickup locations accept wine, so a gift doesn't depend on an adult being home to sign. 16% of buyers of signature-required products such as wine choose pickup on average.

Via.Delivery works with the systems you already use:See how it works or book a demo to have pickup at checkout live before Nov 22.

FAQ

When is Cyber Week 2026?

Cyber Week runs from Thanksgiving, Thursday Nov 26, 2026, through Cyber Monday, Nov 30. Black Friday is Nov 27. Adobe forecasts $47.5 billion in U.S. online spending over the five days.

Do FedEx, UPS and USPS pick up on Thanksgiving 2026?

No. On Nov 26, FedEx Express, Ground and Home Delivery are closed, UPS has no pickup or delivery for any service, and USPS has no regular delivery. UPS and USPS operate normally on Black Friday, Nov 27; FedEx runs a modified schedule that day.

Are shipping surcharges higher during Cyber Week?

Yes. Cyber Week falls in the highest-rate period at every major carrier: Nov 22 – Dec 26 at UPS and Amazon Shipping, and Nov 23 – Dec 27 at FedEx. A residential Ground package pays a $0.75 (UPS) or $0.80 (FedEx) demand surcharge on top of the regular residential surcharge. USPS holiday prices apply from Oct 4, 2026 to Jan 17, 2027.

How much will Cyber Week 2026 sales grow?

Adobe forecasts $47.5 billion in U.S. online spending from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday 2026, up 7.4% from $44.2 billion in 2025. It expects Thanksgiving at $6.9 billion (+8.5%), Black Friday at $12.9 billion (+9.2%) and Cyber Monday at $15.1 billion (+6.2%), which leaves about $12.6 billion for the weekend. Your own growth rate over recent weeks is a better guide for your store.

How are Cyber Week sales split by day?

In Adobe's 2026 forecast, Thanksgiving is about 14.5% of Cyber Week spending, Black Friday 27%, Saturday and Sunday together 26.5%, and Cyber Monday 32%. In 2025, Black Friday ran about 3.3 times an average early-November day and Cyber Monday about 4 times.

How can online stores lower Cyber Week shipping costs?

Fix packaging that triggers Additional Handling, rate-shop by lane and weight, confirm extra pickups for Nov 27 and Nov 30, and offer pickup locations at checkout. Orders delivered to a pickup location are commercial deliveries, so they skip the residential surcharge and the residential demand surcharge.
